Not all birthing mothers choose to breastfeed, but it is highly encouraged. Breastfeeding has proven benefits for baby beyond providing the essential nutrition he or she needs to flourish. Breastmilk boosts babies’ immune systems, providing some protection again common childhood infections. It also is linked to a lower risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Even when birth mothers choose to breastfeed, they still may face challenges. Sore nipples, low milk supply, plugged ducts, fungal infections, and engorgement are just a few of the most common. We provide breastfeeding support to our clients who wish to breastfeed but need assistance working out the issues.
We also recommend Cassandra Romero, IBCLC, and founder of The Cleavage Club support group on Facebook. Our clients can reach her at 562-616-3830. Other breastfeeding support resources include the La Leche League International.
